Pharisee

The Pharisäer is a traditional North German coffee drink consisting of strong, black coffee refined with a dash of rum and topped with a thick layer of cream. The special feature of the Pharisee is the combination of the hot coffee with the cold, sweet cream topping, which is not stirred but drunk through the layer of cream. Originally, the Pharisee was disguised as a secret drink on the North Frisian Islands, hence the name, which refers to the biblical Pharisees who were known for their hypocrisy.
